Velocity was one of the best PlayStation minis titles released, Velocity Ultra is one of the best PlayStation Vita titles released, so Brighton-based developer Futurlab are going all out with the sequel, Velocity 2X.
The next iteration in the critically acclaimed franchise will not only land on the handheld once again, but will see Futurlab make their next-generation debut with a PlayStation 4 release.
Rather than resting on the laurels, Futurlab intend to fuse side-scrolling action onto the shoot’em up mechanics as Quarp Jet pilot, Kai, docks her ship to then infiltrate enemy space stations.
“Velocity struck a chord with gamers for its innovative combination of gameplay mechanics,” commented Managing Director, James Marsden, “and our aim with Velocity 2X is to take players on a similar journey of discovery. We’re confident that the combination of features we’re creating across two classic gameplay formats will be thrilling for fans of Velocity, and should hopefully encourage newcomers to try our particular brand of twitchy fun.”
Velocity 2X aims to release next year and will be playable at the Eurogamer Expo later this year.
