We’ve had the PlayStation 1 kick back now it’s time for its successor, the PlayStation 2.

Having launched in 2000 it went on to sell over 153 million unit making it the best-selling home console of all time – and was the best-selling console of all time until recently when the Nintendo DS squeaked past.

The video highlights that a big selling point was the fact that it was the first console to play DVD movies which, in a time when the technology was still emerging, it became a hugely influential factor to many potential customers. There was also a huge library of games, over 10,000 in fact, which included some iconic franchises such as Grand Theft Auto, God of War and Gran Turismo, plus long-standing gems like Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.

The PlayStation 2 was an incredibly power brand and, for many, a way of life as the PlayStation name well and truly took off. Sony will be hoping that the PlayStation 4 does exactly the same thing. February 20 cannot come soon enough.
