It’s not just Epic Games that are showcasing the future, Square Enix have released a tech demo of their next-gen Luminous Engine.
The demo was shown at an after-hours E3 event earlier this week, which Game Informer are reporting that chief technology officer Yoshihisa Hashimoto tweaked some of the components such as hair colour, and running it again, to prove it was not pre-rendered – and suitably wowing the audience.
Square Enix hope that this engine will help to bridge the gap between real-time gameplay graphics and pre-rendered cinematics – something which the company are experts at. The engine is also set to be scalable, capable of running on low-powered mobile devices as well as high-end consoles and PCs.
Let’s hope that the next-generation of consoles are powerful enough to run beauty’s like this.
