With screenshots and videos being released in abundance by Sega, Sonic’s latest downloadable adventure has finally been given an official release date.
Sega have announced that the game will be released on Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and PC on May 15. The game will cost £9.99 on PS3, £12.99 on PC and 1200 Microsoft Points (£10.28) on XBLA.
It should be noted, however, that the PSN updates on a Wednesday, so you may have to wait a little longer to download the PS3 copy.
Sega also announced that owners of both of the Sonic 4 episodes will receive free access to some unlockable story levels, in which gamers play as ‘Metal Sonic’. The story of these bonus levels will allow Sonic fans to understand the origins of Metal Sonic, and serves as a nice gift to fans of the episodic series.
Game producer Takashi Iizuka has already said that they are “not planning to release another episode”, so it looks like Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 is going to be a last hurrah for the episodic franchise.
