After a hardware slump last week, sales are on the rise once again as the Nintendo 3DS continues the hot streak in 2012 that it saw towards the end of last year. With over 240k sales, up from last weeks total that was just shy of 200k, the 3DS is still dominating the Japanese chart (week of January 2 – 8).

News earlier this week from Sony confirmed that PlayStation Vita sales had surpassed half a million, the total in Japan has now surpassed over 480k for the region, making up the majority of that 500k total. Weekly sales for the handheld rose, but only slightly with less than 300 extra units. Elsewhere, sales for the PlayStation 3 and the PSP rose, as did the Wii, whilst the PlayStation 2 continued to power on and the Xbox 360 struggles yet again. Check the full figures below:

As for software, Mario Kart 7 continues to sped along in first place with another 157k units shifted, with Super Mario 3D Land breaking 119k units also. Monster Hunter 3G also broke the million unit barrier.
