EA has announced a new free-to-play Command & Conquer MMO is coming in 2012.
The new entrant to the series is titled Command & Conquer: Tiberium Alliances and is set in the Tiberium universe. EA are promising cross-platform play thanks to its browser-based design.
Senior producer Martin Löhlein stated that “we are thrilled to have the opportunity to forge new ground with this acclaimed franchise. We’re hoping to deliver an experience that will allow our loyal fans to play their favorite franchise anywhere they go, while introducing the exciting world of Tiberium to new players.”
Command & Conquer Tiberium Alliances is the first MMO and first free-to-play game for the long-running Command & Conquer series and it seems recent adoption of the free-to-play model in certain MMO’s including DC Universe Online, could have been a potential influence for EA when creating Tiberium Alliances’ MMO model.
A closed beta began on December 4th so stay tuned for more details as we get them.
