Scans of Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu have appeared showing off a new attachment for the 3DS.
The new attachment, which is like a funky looking cradle, features a second circle pad, or second “stick” for us normal folk. While a second stick is always welcome, the device does seem to add considerable bulk to the device.
Officially called “The Expansion Slide Pad” it seems to add a second stick that is actually smaller than the one on the actual handheld.
The attachment already has confirmed support for Monster Hunter Tri G, the 3DS port of the Wii’s Monster Hunter Tri, with Monster Hunter supervisor Ryoso Tsujimoto saying that the device “provides a good grip on the system” and describing it as a “secret weapon”, providing a similar experience to playing monster Hunter Tri on the Wii.
The attachment also replaces the 3DS’ R button, while also adding an R2 and L2 button. The original L button on the console is not replaced.
It remains to be seen how well this will be supported, but one can’t help but feel that this is something Nintendo should have factored in with the original design.
No release date has been announced for the peripheral. Check out a scan from Famitsu below:
